My dad – also an avid photographer – came out for a visit this week, and we spent five days traveling around Yellowstone and other nearby areas of interest, each armed with dozens of pounds of camera gear. Yellowstone was, of course, an area of particular interest to us.
We saw the park from Tower Falls down to Old Faithful, and though there’s far more to see than we could fit into two days, we covered quite a bit of ground in between.
Of course, there’s a lot to see in the area other than Yellowstone. We enjoyed some of the less grand places just as much, such as a hike to Ousel Falls. Named for a bird of the same name, Ousel Falls is a popular hike in the Big Sky area, found in a very pretty gorge.
We spent one night out photographing the night sky, out in the middle of nowhere in the Taylor Fork area. It was a beautiful, almost perfectly clear night with a spectacular sky. Lights from a nearby campsite added some interest to the photos.
This afternoon, as we were leaving for the airport so he could fly home, a hawk perched in a tree in my neighborhood gave him a nice send off.
